Does Baptism Save?

What Does The Bible Say About Baptism Saving?

Mark 16:16 KJV He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Baptisms must be done in faith to bring salvation. Otherwise we are just getting wet. Baptism is a spiritual act of faith. Something happens Spiritually when we are baptized in the name of Jesus.

1 Peter 3:20  Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

1 Peter 3:21  The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Noah was saved through a process of water. Only 8 people were saved in the first judgement. A lot of times people say it is not fair that one must be baptized in Jesus name to be saved. But let me remind you that only 8 people were saved and obedient to God. Verse 21 says baptism does also now save us. The bible teaches that baptism is required for salvation. Real faith leads us to obey the word of God.

Acts 22:16 KJV And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Baptism washes away sin. I look at baptism like taking a shower and confessing like washing your hands. You get baptized to wash away all sin and as we commit sin we confess it for forgiveness. Just like when someone takes a shower, if they get their hands dirty they don't take another shower they just wash their hands. Baptism works the same way. Jesus paid the price for sin and we must be baptized in his name.

Luke 24:47 KJV And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Jesus told the Apostles to preach Repentance and Remission of sins in his name (Jesus). And that is exactly what Peter did. In Acts 2:38 Peter preaches Repentance and Remission of sins in Jesus name.

Acts 2:38 KJV Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

They taught the forgiveness of sins by being baptized in Jesus name. Baptism doesn't just save but it also forgives sins. It isn't the water that forgives the sins but the name they baptize you in and it is the name of Jesus.
